Rockcliffe Park Public School is twinned with Guardian Angel Elementary School in Lesotho, southern Africa. It is a school greatly in need. Things we take for granted, like pencils, are luxuries for the students.
For a number of years, Rockcliffe's Book Fair has helped raise money for Guardian Angel. Our Grade 6 students collect coins in jars throughout the sale and there is an information table at Book Fair where people can learn more about Lesotho and the school. The fundraising began as a way to purchase books for Guardian Angel and has expanded over the years. Donations have enabled the school to buy a cow, so children can have fresh milk each day, and have gone towards clothing for the children. RPPS also raises money for the school throughout the year.
The School has a new initiative, started in 2007, selling birthday invitation packages for children's parties. Parents buy invitation packs for $20 - in the packs are also a couple of notes from the birthday boy or girl asking two of the children to give a donation to the Lesotho school in lieu of a gift. The various fundraising efforts at RPPS have raised thousands of dollars for Guardian Angel.
