Backpack Poets is launched!
Poetry lives in the heart and halls of Rockcliffe Park Public School. This enthusiasm for poetry intensified in January 2008 when JC Sulzenko, an Ottawa author of children's poetry, arrived at Rockcliffe as its' first Poet-in-Residence. This project, in conjunction with National Poetry Month, culminated with a published anthology of poetry entitled Backpack Poets of Rockcliffe Park.

VOLUNTEERS!
We have some specific areas where we could use some volunteers before book fair opens its doors:
-A student volunteer coordinator who can take our forms and turn them into a working schedule. This will require some emailing and phone calls.
-A partner for our New Children's book coordinator who will help with inventory when the new books arrive at the school the day before book fair begins.
-A coordinator for our New Children's French section. This involves contacting the bookstore, receiving the books they send to the school and setting up the section. One person can do this or two people could share the position.
-The children's section is looking for a few dedicated volunteers who can help organize the section over the two-week sorting period.

BAGS!
In our yearlong campaign to acquire better quality bags, here is a reminder of what kind of bags we are looking for.
recycled holiday/birthday gift bags
heavy plastic bags (like LCBO bags)
Heavy recycled plastic bags (like the Loeb grocery bags that you buy)
paper shopping bags with handles (like the Gap)
old canvas bags
Please DO NOT send in plastic grocery bags. They are unusable for books.

FOODIES!
Do you have a friend with a restaurant? Frequent your neighbourhood deli? Whatever your connection, our café's success relies on food donations from local restaurants and stores. If you or someone you know is interested in helping us obtain donations from the community, please contact Seema Rosenbloom at Seema Rosenbloom or call her at 613-795-0084.

Literary Festival
For almost 30 years, the best kept secret at RPPS has been a series of workshops we hold leading up to Book Fair that brings authors in to every class in the school. This year we will be highlighting them by calling them a Literary Festival.
